Hi there Canoe Boy.

I Have one that I developed (rarely fails) on the Stave for Chum. It's called Mat Green short for Metallic Green. I did sent a sample and instructions off to Fly Fishing Canada for the  Encyclopeia of Canadian Flies, if they ever get around to publishing the test you will find the Tying instructions there. Anyway the next time I see your Dad on the Stave I'll give him a few for you. I did give Rod a couple awhile ago if he still has them maybe he could post a photo.

Simple to tie and relatively durable are my two main criteria for chum and spring flies...and a Popsicle or Showgirl would fit this description.

But most often, I just tie up zonkers in various colour combinations and use different sized beadheads or lead/brass eyes depending on how much weight I want to put on them.  I find that the rabbit fur provide enough enticing movement, and stand up to their teeth very well.  Use a good salmon hook when you tie them up also.

I've also had success with General Practitioner variations and egg-sucking leeches.  However, I've also found that chum will strike coho flies (e.g. rolled muddlers).

Hey - Stone - is that you (from BCFR)?

if you are targetting chum(mostly on the stave) save your time in tying because you will be breaking a fair amount of fish off(they are big angry fish with teeth) for targetting chums I just use a bait loop on a 1/0 or 2/0 with green or red wool. never fails and the cheapest and easiest fly I tie.....now if you are in the Harrison or Dewdney etc. stick with the previous mentioned flys and you never no what you might get.......

Hatch Match'r in Maple Ridge is now tying my Chum patterns (Mat Green, Mat Red, Dec 25, and Happy Hooker). Traded him specs for his hot pink patterns.
