A notice for the perch anglers.
There are two species of shore crab present in BC waters, Hemigrapsus nudis and
Hemigrapsus oregonensis. Shore crabs are the small green and purple crabs
found under rocks in the intertidal foreshore. Very little is known about the
biology of these species except that they are entirely intertidal and perform
an important scavenging role in the ecosystem. The Department does not assess
shore crab stocks.
Effective September 5, 2005, the daily limit for shore crab is reduced from
75
per day to 0 per day in Area 28 (Howe Sound, Indian Arm and Burrard Inlet) and
in Subareas 29-6 to 29-17 (waters adjacent to the lower mainland, including
Boundary Bay). This change will address concerns over stocks in Areas 28 and
29 which are adjacent to highly populated areas.
