Idea for Freedom of Information Act use
« on: August 16, 2005, 10:28:12 AM »

Has anyone thought of using the FOIA to gather stats regarding how often salmon violations have been called in, and what the FOC resolution was?  Perhaps one of our more media savvy members could dig that info up?

I think that that would be a great idea. At least that way we could see how often things actually get called in and how many violations there are. It would certainly put some light on the subject.

Stats of reported violations at ORR and number of responses to those reports do get released when DFO enforcement brief with us at meetings. I have last year's numbers filed away but will dig them out tonight if interested.

I have a feeling that they are releasing "final" stats.  And as we all know there are lies, damned lies, and statistics. :D

Raw numbers might be better, although they would require collation.

i.e.

Call Date/time
Call reason
Call resolution

This may allow a neutral party to better analyse the data ;)

What we need is more details as DS mentioned than the little sheet they presented at the meeting you talk about Rodney. Will bring up at the SDA meeting DS. Thanks for the  idea.

Always glad to help.  I have been astounded at the stuff that you hear reporters getting information about via the FOIA
