Interesting question (at least to me).  How do u guys use your pencil lead! Do u let it hang off a swivel or do you run the line through the lead and let it slide! Which is best or is there a best?

I prefer hanging it from a snap swivel. Saves me alot of lead.

Why in particular?

My brother uses surgical tubing to hold the pencil lead in place. I've noticed that whenever he snags up, he invariably wind up losing his weight. Whenever I snag up I tend to lose only the leader. (We both use the same lb. test leader)

I hang the pencil lead off of a snap swivel too.  I cut the pencil lead into various lengths at home first.  Then flatten one end with a hammer and drill a hole in the flat part.  Like FA mentioned, I lose the leader more often than the lead.

that's a lot of work, why not get one of those pliers with a built in punch at a fishing store ~$10.

Swivel.  I cut it on the river and use the punch pliers.

I haven't tried this but what if you attach the leader with a very small line?  Let's say 2lbs.  So, if it snags, the 2lb line will break.  I attach the lead to the swivel but I lose everything, leader and lead.
