Washington State Coho Run Forecast
« on: October 09, 2026, 06:47:34 PM »

Washington is forecasting a very large return of coho for the state with 900k for Puget Sound and 500k for the Columbia. Much of those numbers are hatchery returns ( ie about 2/3 forecast of the Hood Canal return is hatchery stock). This is the largest projected returns in 20 years or more and one of the largest returns historically. Such a return is indicative of good ocean survival so one would expect an excellent return for southern BC if not in those numbers. I haven't heard anything about expectations but my angling experience so far has been good numbers of fish in the early part of season.

Anyone had good success or heard what fishing was like in the SOG?

General consensus was a lot of wilds this year off the fraser mouth and seems to be the case in the river (from my experience).
I don't think the lower mainland does test sets for coho (correct me if I'm wrong) so we don't get an estimate.

The amount of coho in the SOG right now has not been seen since the 80’s.

There was an insane amount of coho at the mouth of the Fraser this year,

I’d imagine when the IF coho numbers come in early next year it will be a large return.
