Advice needed!
I am fortunate enough to be planning my first Skeena trip! I am leaving Burnaby by car on Sunday Aug 30 and coming back Sept 6 or 7th. We will be staying in Terrace (me and a buddy). I know only a little from yt videos and what I've read online about this region.
My goal of course is to catch a world class steelhead and hopefully multiple
. Although I also want to fish for coho and sockeye, I understand Chinooks are mostly done at this time.
From what I understand mainstem Skeena is usually somewhat clear and good for fishing for steelhead and coho during this time with the odd sockeye. Some sources say now is the prime for Skeena steelhead but I had saw the Tyee test fishery says more than 40 k are estimated to have passes already, which I would think is already a majority of the run is it not? Even on this record year.
I will only have shore access, no jet boats or fancy stuff. I don't have a high clearance vehicle either so just a regular sedan. If anyone has recommended spots to try on the mainstem, other rivers I should fish in that period or any other advice please private message me or respond below.
From what I can see is the nearby options other than mainstem Skeena is the Kitsumkalum, Kitimat and Copper Rivers. Does anyone have any experience on these in this time of year?
I'll be bringing my centerpin setup, spinning setup and fly setup.
My new fly setup I have a 10 wt 9 foot rod with a 9/10 wt Sage Spectrum C with A floating line and type 4 sink tip. I've actually never fly fished for salmon/steelhead so will be learning.
