BC Hydro tries to justify their killing of salmon and steelhead in the Cheakamus River:

https://www.squamishchief.com/news/local-news/bc-hydro-is-proactive-and-adaptive-company-says-of-squamish-operations-1.24019345?fbclid=IwAR1xzxmRhc_jrTIk95EbKG5GdVGalhpVpigt7Wdbpz8GWu8TzKeDit2hXRk

BC Hydro is killing not just a couple 100 salmon or steelhead with their ramping of the Cheakamus River, but 1000's! Even their own biologists have documented it and they continue to justify it. When they drop the river by 50% in less than a day, what do you think is going to happen! You don't need to be a scientist to know that it will result in fry stranding, redd dewatering, and even adult spawning mortalities as we saw this summer with the pink salmon in the Cheakamus. https://www.squamishchief.com/news/local-news/mass-fish-kill-on-river-in-squamish-1.23964549

Even the Mayor of Squamish has spoken out:

What's even more infuriating is the DFO representative in charge of Water Use Plan has said some very supportive and shocking things (like that salvage and recontouring are viable alternatives) that are not supported by science. DFO has just sat back and let BC Hydro kill more steelhead and salmon. They have failed to live up to their mandate to protect salmon and even been complacent in letting these fish kills happen! They're content to sit back and let the fox rule the hen house!

Did they receive any fines for this?

No fines.  DFO did nothing!  Business as usual, keep making power and killing salmon and steelhead!

Same issue on the Alouette this year with many stranded fry. Totally unacceptable. Where is ARMS on this issue? Anyone in contact with them?
