Overnight camping at the prison camp?
« on: May 29, 2018, 05:31:25 PM »

Are there any issues for a medium sized group of friends (we're all adults mid30s :) )  doing a quick overnighter camp out at the old prison camp?

Is it common for people to camp there?  I would like to avoid any potential tickets or anything like that.

I tired to google search this question but nothing really came up.

appreciate all replies. thanks!

I would be most concerned for discarded needles from squatters and some SOB busting a window in your vehicle looking for a Tim Hortons cup.  :'( Then there are the other needle-heads in the grass - these are the flying variety - mosquito.

I think you need to get further away from the main road. There are some really nice spots on the other side of the river. At the first bridge past the hatchery that takes you over the Chilliwack River turn left and follow it a little ways and you will find some really nice spots to camp which will be a little more practical. You don't need a truck for this but you'll be able to be near your vehicles.

I saw a couple folk camped out there once, but as Reiber said, you're a long way from your vehicle at that place...

I would just head up to Chillwack Lake and camp at a proper site, or Chipmunk, Riverside etc along the way.

Unless your plan is to get rowdy.  Then all bets are off when unsanctioned camping in the 'Wack.

yeah we tend to get pretty loud.  A regular rec.site might not be suitable. For the last 8 years  we have been booking the Chehalis north group campsite which has been great but they have now closed off that area entirely which is a major maaaajor drag.  I've been camping at that Chehalis north site since I was a little kid.

I’ve camped there twice with no issue. We had a group of 5 tents. Camped on the right side close to the river under the grove of trees. Judging by the fire pit and vagina wipes all over the place it looks like it gets camped at regularly.

If it’s not pink it’s going to stink.

If it’s not pink it’s going to stink.

Especially if is a dirty rose bud or cinnamon ring.
