Capilano Fly Line Suggestions?
« on: May 04, 2018, 08:55:56 AM »

Looking for a good all round line for fishing the Cap.

I have a floating line now, but I see most other (successful) folk using some sort of sinking or clear line.

Fairly novice caster, so hopefully something somewhat forgiving in the ole roll cast dept...

Thanks:)

Type 6 sinking line. Works great for the summer fishery and when the water bumps in september you might be having some good days 8) ;)

Well, I got me a RIO InTouch Deep 6.

I used to think I was not that great of a caster, but man, this thing showed me what casting badly can really be about!

Roll casting is a much better option especially because alot of cap fishing is far above the water. I'll be one of the cable pool regulars this summer, maybe one day we will meet! 8)

I tend to like going down into the canyons. The idea of rock crawling with one hand while fighting a fish with the other give me the heebie jeebies...

I don’t fish the cap, but I fish steep/deep canyon pools regularly. Last fall I bought a SA sonar sink tip line, I believe it’s the heaviest tip in that series of lines (type 6?). It has a long heavy tip on it (20’) and it has allowed me to effectively fly fish canyon pools that I never before thought possible. It roll casts a mile and sinks like an anchor. I highly recommend, but it is pretty well a specialty line for fishing very deep/fast water.

I believe it’s the type 5 that I have.
