The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, in partnership with the Sport Fishing Institute of BC, is hosting the 8th World Recreational Fishing Conference (WRFC8) in Victoria, British Columbia, from July 16th to 20th, 2017. The conference unites the global recreational fisheries community, providing a vital forum to discuss current research. Held every three years, this is the only international conference focused solely on recreational fisheries. The past two conferences were held in Brazil (2014) and Germany (2011).

Three hundred or more recreational fisheries professionals from over 25 countries around the world – including a large contingent from Canada, the United States, and Australia – will be attending next summer. The conference provides a unique opportunity for delegates to interact with scholars, government scientists and managers, consultants, and industry leaders during four days of sessions, an exhibition, evening banquet, and reception.

Keynote speakers include Ray Hilborn (School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences, University of Washington), Stephen Carpenter (Center for Limnology, University of Wisconsin-Madison), Josh Abbott (School of Sustainability, Arizona State University), and our own Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC Fishing Advisor, Brian Chan.

The International Scientific Committee is now accepting abstract submissions for consideration in the WRFC8 program under the theme “balancing values – the future of recreational fishing around the world.” The final sessions will be developed based on accepted abstract submissions, and will address the most recent findings on management strategies, monitoring and assessment, social and economic studies, and conservation tools in recreational fisheries.

For more information on how to submit an abstract, register for the conference, or book accommodation, please visit wrfc8.com.

We also invite you to partner with the Pacific Salmon Foundation and Freshwater Fisheries Society to help sponsor this event.
