On the government chart showing discharge levels for the Squamish River near Brackendale, does anyone know what a good m/3 discharge level is? It currently shows it going up up up...

Up to 3.5ish is still fishable but be cautious... Anything like 5ish plus it's a no go with trees and root systems floating down the river!

We were up on Saturday and it was running at over 1000m/s and about 5.6 meters. It was scary how much water was flowing down - with dozens and dozens of fallen trees floating down with it. That level of water discharge could fill an Olympic swimming pool in 2.5 seconds. All of Howe sound around Squamish looked like a milky latte filled with debris.
At this level - the main river was literally an inch below the road just past the head of the gravel section.

We did mostly scouting - bad day to try to fish. One slip and you would have been a goner. My buddy pointed me to an app called "River App" - highly suggested. Decent search function to see what levels the rivers are at compared to normal. Good stuff to add to your journal if you keep one.

But yeah .... I like it below 3.5 for sure to be safe.

This was just posted to the Sea to Sky Ministry website:

November 8, 2016 - Squamish River FSR and branch roads closed due to flooding and washouts. Closure in effect at 0km (where pavement turns into gravel). Closure subject to weather conditions so reopening date cannot be predicted. Check back for updates as they become available.

Looks like nobody is heading up there soon :-(

The gauge now is just under 8 meters and it's still raining off and on. Road to the upper Squamish is under water and the community up there is now cut off and isolated. All of the rivers are in major flood. It will be a while before anything is remotely fishable. The freezing level is currently at 3200 meters and it's warm out with another heavy rain projected for the end of the week.
