Cougar sighting, lower vedder river.
« on: July 10, 2016, 01:29:45 PM »

Hello all. Just wanted to let everyone know that I saw a large cougar, walk across the dyke from the horse farm into the forest at hopedale this morning. It was reported to authorities and use caution if out in that area.

I thought they generally hang out in pubs  ;)

I've seen a good sized bobcat at the RV Park but never a cougar.

Near the train bridge?
It was just past the stop sign at the tracks heading into the parking lot, so yes.

I always wondered if there were cougars near the C/V .....

I came across 2 good sized bobcats while steelheading during the winter ....both mid to upper river.
Saw them on the trail through the woods on my way to the river...one of them, I almost walked right into it, literally.
It was on the trail, I walked around the corner and stopped dead in my tracks ...it just looked up at me and then slowly sauntered off, it sure was not worried about me.

I usually get to the river very early in the morning and I am alone ....now I make a habit of jingling keys or stamping my feet as I go through the woods.

I sure would not want to run into a bear or a cougar .....yikes

I See bears occasionally on the Veddar but one time, in the early predawn dark, I ran into one on the lower.
Good thing I pack extra underwear.  ???

Making noise is a good thing to do especially in the early or late hours.

What smells like pepper and jingles when you shake it?
Grizzly poop!

There are plenty of them walking along side C/V especially on weekends.
