Vedder Canal Dyke Should Re Open July 1
« on: June 29, 2016, 04:17:12 AM »

My annual letter to the City of Chilliwack.

Good morning Glen,

My annual note to you and staff

Just a note that I am sure City of Chilliwack staff will be opening the closed gates from the Denbows area,McGillivray Pump Station and at the Keith Wilson Bridge for the morning of July 1 per our agreement many years ago.

As you know the Chilliwack Vedder River opens for sports fishing that day as well. Many people will be eager to drive to this area, especially those like me that find walking distances difficult now because of mobility issues.

We must do all we can to keep access open in areas like this for these people who have fished the Vedder and Chilliwack River for half a century and in some cases more and still wish too.

Of course we all know the amount of dollars the fishing industry brings to Chilliwack and the Valley, we must continue to do all we can to make sure we do all we can to encourage that.

Happy July 1 to all and see some of you on the river.

Chris

I really like using this dyke as well Mr.Gadsden.I sure wish the city imposed much tougher penalties for the polluters and dumpers that frequent these areas. The city was great in coming out and cleaning up all the dumps when called and we will not hesitate to do minor cleaning as we see it.This is our outdoors people! Do your part if you can 🙂

Most are but of course there is a few that donot, dumping garbage etc. but the Chilliwack Vedder River Cleanup Society and some other volunteers do their best to keep it clean. Of course if it gets really bad the City of Chilliwack could close it for the other 10 months of the year like Abbotsford did a few years, on the other side of the Canal.

I and others place garbage bags along this stretch, thanks to Novabonker for his donation of 2 large boxes of garbage bags for the CVRCS and others to use.

Of course you and others can do your bit by cleaning up when fishing our rivers, it all helps. Thanks to all that do.
