Sea-Run’s Weekend Fishing Report – March 26th, 2016

Steelhead

We are nearing the last quarter of our Winter Steelhead fishery in most systems. That being said, there is still plenty of time to get out on the water and have some good days for these wonderful fish. On the whole, Winter Steelhead fishing has been quite a bit slower than average in most places such as the Vedder/Chilliwack system, but at the same time, the end of March and April can be some of the best fishing throughout the season. River levels on the Vedder currently sit quite a bit lower than average with unlimited visibility. Looking ahead in the forecast, some very warm and sunny weather is supposed to shine upon us. This will likely begin a bit of a snow melt which will likely bring the river up a bit.

Cutthroat

The warm weather is upon us and the salmon fry are popping out! We have seen a large increase in the amount of salmon fry swimming around in the shallows this past week, and this will only continue to increase. Salmon fry are a Cutthroats favourite food this time of the year and it is your best bet to imitate a salmon fry with whatever presentation you are using. When fly fishing, fry patterns are obviously your main fly style, and when casting lures or spinners, smaller spoons and spinners in silver or gold variations are your "go-to".

Saltwater Chinook

We have had some fantastic Chinook fishing in our local saltwater areas this Winter, and early Spring has seen some of the best saltwater Chinook fishing we have seen in awhile. We have had lots of success with a variety of spoons such as 3.5 & 4 Pesca and Coyote Spoons in different colour variations, as well as anchovies fished in teaser heads. It has seemingly been a common theme to get fish in the high teens and low 20's this past week.

Guided Trips

Steelhead

If this is the year you want to learn how to catch Steelhead, this is your opportunity to learn from some of the best. In this fishery, 10% of anglers catch 90% of the fish, and this is your chance to learn from that 10%. We will cover water types, gear setups, artificial and natural baits, steelhead habits, and much more.

Available on the side of our "In-Store" Steelhead Float Fishing Course, we also offer "On the water" guided trips for Winter Steelhead, which will begin in January. Click the following link to view our Guided Steelhead Trips: ~ http://www.sea-run.com/guided-trips/ ~
