Sea-Run’s Fishing Report & Courses Update – March 6th, 2016

As we near the end of Winter, the array of upcoming fisheries are nearly endless!
Winter Steelhead fishing is still in full swing and will continue to be productive for most systems over the course of the next month. Some systems will be slowing down while others will be continuing to produce good numbers of fish. We have seen inconsistent numbers of fish throughout the season with some good days to be had, along with some slow days to be had. The only way to ensure success is to keep casting! Methods and tactics to target Winter Steelhead include a variety of methods including Float Fishing, Lure Fishing, and Fly Fishing. Check out our River Report section on our website for the most current and up to date water conditions and fishing reports.

Being that we are now into March, it is most certainly not too early to start prepping your gear for ice off in our Interior Lakes. We are still uncertain as to when the ice will coming off as weather temperatures still have time to cool down before the Spring, although we may be looking at an “early” ice off for most lakes. As a general rule of thumb, lakes that are at a lower elevation will ice off earlier than lakes that are at a higher elevation. We are excited to break out the chronomids and leeches for ice off!

Coastal Cutthroat Trout inhabit most of our local river systems and this is a fishery that is steadily approaching. In the later Winter and early Spring months, Salmon fry begin to hatch from the gravel they were spawned in and are a Cutthroat’s favourite food this particular time of year. Anglers typically target Cutthroat Trout with a fly rod and fry pattern, OR with a light spinning setup and small spinner or spoon that would imitate Salmon fry.

If this is the year you want to learn how to catch Steelhead, this is your opportunity to learn from some of the best. In this fishery, 10% of anglers catch 90% of the fish, and this is your chance to learn from that 10%. We will cover water types, gear setups, artificial and natural baits, steelhead habits, and much more.

Available on the side of our "In-Store" Steelhead Float Fishing Course, we also offer "On the water" guided trips for Winter Steelhead, which will begin in January. Click the following link to view our Guided Steelhead Trips: ~ http://www.sea-run.com/guided-trips/ ~
