Tidal Fraser River, October 11th 2015
« on: October 11, 2015, 11:30:17 PM »

First cohos of the year.  Had 3 on today with a few more that bit the spoon but missed the hook. Landed 2 out of 3.  All the action occurred within 30 minutes starting at about 2:45pm. No action for the rest of the day.  I started at noon.  This wild one (Approx 22") was released and I retained a 21" hatchery one.  All on croc spoons.

The first one I had on was a male that did about 5 somersaults before losing the hook.  It looked about 8lbs.  Then one guy downstream snagged one accidentally in the middle of the river while float fishing which appeared to be 10+ lbs.  It's length was about the length of a small chum.

Haven't seen anything bigger than 4 in 3 weeks of fishing between 6 anglers.
samw must be at the right place at the right time. Good on you!

Out of the 20 or so coho I've hooked so far, there has not been one over 6 pounds and I have only seen one push over 8 that was caught. Lots and lots of jacks so far too.

Nice fish Big Snag.  But that's not a jack.  It's a small adult buck.  I'm with BCfisherman 97.  I've hooked a similar number of coho so far, and all have been small with the largest (only one fish) pushing 5 - 6 pounds.  Most have been in the 3 - 4 pound range, and I've noticed lots of small bucks that seem like large jacks.

This past weekend I landed and retained a larger one of around 7-8lbs every other coho I've seen were those little guys. I should have taken a picture as the bigger ones this year seem to be unicorns  ???
