Squamish reports?
« on: October 02, 2015, 09:53:53 PM »

Has anybody fished the Squamish in the last week? Thinking of going out on Sunday with the 8wt. I'm thinking its early, but just thought to check around first.

Just put one out in the fishing reports section - still dirty and higher than I expected but the scenery is wonderful.

Was at the mamquam/squamish on friday and it was a ghost town other than the odd pink kicking around and visibility on the squam was very poor.Need colder weather for the rivers to clear up and the fish to start showing up. Same with the cheakamus

I've been hammering the area for two weeks now and don't have any coho to show for it. Certainly a lot later than last season and the water in the squamish itself is a mess. Save yourself a drive; I wont fish up there again for a week or two.

The flood event of a few weeks back is having lingering effects. Even though levels are back to normal, the amount of silt and sand flowing through the mainstem is still very high. Downed trees all over the valley floor, pretty unreal the changes up there. Tribs still colored as well, but definitely fishable. That might change with all the rain in the forecast leading up to the weekend.

Squamish was good for coho on Saturday.  I was really not expecting to catch anything and was quite surprised at a successful day out.

There are coho coming up the tribs. Got one on pretty quickly after the sun went behind the mountains in the evening.

Is Mamquam Ok to fish now?  When I read the regs I found them ambiguous on whether it was open or not.

It says "August 22nd, 2015 Until further notice" - No fishing for salmon

But it also says "All except coho".

I guess it means it's Ok to fish it for coho but not for anything else but the "no fishing for salmon" bit kept me away from it.

Horribly confusing if you ask me  :-\

I thought Rodney was checking on this issue earlier.  When the rest of the "drought" closures were recinded, this one should have been lifted as well, but for whatever reason was not.  Because they have edited the table to read "All except coho" suggests this was intentional, rather than an oversight.  Therefore, it is safe to say the Marquam is closed to fishing for all salmon except coho.

Seems so odd to me because I can't see how it is possible to be selective for Coho.

Presentations that work for coho are very readily snapped up by Chums too.

I to wondered about this.  Perhaps you have to use a blue fox spinner with "Coho Only" stamped on the blade?
