Just curious who I missed ... of course Chris our magnificent leader, Buck, Rodney, and Terry Bodman were there, but who else from this site?
A dumpster was nearly filled by close to 300 volunteers; great job by all :D

Thanks Dave for the great work you and Mark did assigning the volunteers and as you said "We were able to cover the Valley today."

Also for helping the great volunteers unload all the garbage at the 2 bins, The Chilliwack Vedder River watershed is looking great this evening, lets hope it stays that way for a while.

Anglers not able to attend can always cleanup up a bit when they are out fishing this wonderful and other river systems in our Province.

Was good to see out MLA from Chilliwack Hope Laurie Throness and FVRD Area "E" director Orion Engar attending and doing some cleanup as well.

Rodney will have pictures and video up here and I will get some on Chilliwack Vedder River Cleanup Society and Fraser Valley Salmon Society FB pages later.

Thanks to all that did attend that are reading this post.

I am glad the cleanups continue to be a success.
In the last couple of years I have either missed or passed up on the cleanups for various reasons.
I don't know where those 300 volunteers yesterday came from, but I don't believe many are from FWR. In years past, I have offered free rides from the LML to the cleanups and back and never got any interest. That did discourage me a bit.

Thank you Dave, Chris et alles (you know who you are!) for continuing to support this great initiative.  :)

I appreciate your response Milo, and God knows you have done your share over the years.  Discouraging is bang on considering there were hundreds and hundreds of anglers out that day and only 2 showed up in waders, Buck and Archie.
As you know, I knew the turnout from FWR readers was dismal ... and I find that shameful. I don't know what we, the CVRCS, have to do to make anglers take a larger responsibility for what most seem to take for granted ...

Most of our volunteers are locals who are sick and tired of picking up garbage left by others, but they do it because they love this watershed.

What is encouraging is the number of families bringing their children to participate :D This event will of course continue, and hopefully anglers will become more involved.

Rant over.

I was doing my bit helping out at my local rivers day festival at ARMS

great turnout including one SOB who stole a gift card from the raffle table...

One tip for those on here always asking questions, I found the river clean ups a FANTASTIC way to see new parts of the river and spend some time with often super experienced anglers and pick up some info or even make long lasting friends~

it was quite cool running into you there yesterday
Heidi was very talkative about it after we left
I took her for a walk down the dyke on the lower end and showed
her why it is important, we picked up some stuff on the way
and she and I were quite happy

well chris if you only got two bins out then you are making progress
I remember one year a few years ago it took four bins to clean it
all up. then there was the gun case the burned out fire ring of plastic
the numerous pot plant drops

Good post Dave, while putting up 3 garbage bags today along the canalI picked up a few cups to get them going is always good some coffee is them as it stops people from taking the bags to put their fish in.

Novabonker could not make the cleanup but was kind enough to give us 2 boxes for next cleanaup and I will place them in key areas as required.

results of cleanup.
3150kg of garbage and 730kg of metal were collected yesterday.

In addition, the following items were separated for recycling but not weighed:

Well done CVRCS directors, including Dave, Terry and Rod from this forum and others as well the great volunteers that continue to make it all happen since 2002.

if it was not for Rod speaking to me about forming this group this may never have happened, thanks Rod.

By the way, in Cache Creek now and I know they had a bad flood here but Cache Creek and the Bonaparte River sure could use a cleanup.

Good to see our MLA at the cleanup and recognize the work the CVRCS and volunteers are doing.
