Herring by The Millions
« on: April 08, 2015, 01:21:55 PM »

Was sent to me today.

Vancouver Island B.C.

Carol Hunter's herring video
Here's a link to the best visual treatment I've seen of the herring spawn.  Such a spectacle, but so difficult to capture.  Carol's eye for natural processes is incomparable.  My highlights: clam spouts, Brant on the beach, otters porpoising, herring in shallows, sea duck raft, ...  (This is the same artist who made the video of coho entering Beadnell Cr a couple of falls ago.)

Great vid. Hope the seals and birds left some for the fish to feed on.

I was lucky enough to be on the island in Qulaicum bay (pretty much right across from denman) while this was happening. Incredible to see, felt like I was watching a nature show!

This is why there should be no herring fishery period. Herring are a staple for salmon , many types of birds  and mammals. Say know to a .herring fishery
