bar fishing
« on: July 03, 2004, 10:36:20 PM »

What kind of gear is needed for bar fishing the fraser for springs. I have a 10.5' Diawa Heartland drift rod (rated 12-20lbs) and an Abu 6500c3...is this suitable?

Thanks in advance!

Matt,

Your gear is fine for bar fishing springs in the lower river. Generally you use roe, and can fish various bars in Surrey, Langley area.

Above mission bar fishing springs is  done with spin'n'glos. Currents are heavy, so you usually need lots of weight. Your setup is workable in some situations, but marginal. The trouble is casting out the heavy weights. I initially tried it with similar gear and broke my rod! I now have a heavier Fraser King Rod (rated to 30 pound line). So it you try it with the gear you've got, you have to pick your spots and use care. If you plan to do it often I recommend you get heavier gear.

Good luck.
