Fishing Around Fort St. John

I'm heading up to visit my brother in Fort St. John in 2 weeks.  Won't have a lot of time, or a boat, and my brother doesn't fish.  Any point in taking the gear up there?  Anyone know what's a good lake accessible on foot?  Or, for that matter, what to fish for up there?  Any help, tips, advice would be much appreciated.
