Nicola River Fundraiser - SSBC Annual Thompson River Fundraiser
« on: November 09, 2014, 11:15:16 PM »

It's time for the annual Steelhead Society fundraiser!

We are proud to announce yet another habitat project on the Thompson system. The project will take place on the Nicola River, and will have a positive direct measurable impact on Steelhead numbers in the Thompson system.

At the project site, both sides of what once was the river's riparian area are heavily used by agriculture, having been logged and then cleared decades ago for that purpose. The river itself is subject to water draw down by agricultural and residential water users further exacerbating the issues at hand, which are loss of fish habitat. This project seeks to improve river conditions by preventing further erosion of an unstable bank, and the subsequent siltation/smothering of spawning gravels of the downstream area.

The past three years have seen fantastic support from the angling community for both the fundraiser and our work supporting wild Steelhead in BC, and we thank you all so so much as you continue to make these projects possible.

This is expensive work and we need help raising the funds again this year, so come out and support us!

The event will take place on December 3rd, 2014 @ 7pm at Micky's Irish public house @ 170 Golden Drive, Coquitlam, British Columbia V3K 6T1 (same place as last year).

Tickets are $20, include a Burger and Beer and will be available upon entry. As always, there will be a raffle, 50/50 draw, as well as both live and silent auctions.

100% of the nights' proceeds will go towards this project on the Nicola River.

As always, we thank you for continued support and look forward to seeing you all there.

Come on guys, this has been read 572 times and only one member (who continues to support us year after year) has made a mention of attending.

Come out tomorrow, bring a friend or significant other, it's always a good time with great people and also a great opportunity to pick up some high end gear at a good price while supporting the cause! $20 gets you a burger, a beer, and a few laughs shared with your fellow anglers and outdoors enthusiasts.

Hope to see you there.

Great list of items up for the auction! Nice work, guys. Really trying to make the journey and support this cause, but may not be able to make it until 8ish as it is crunch time on my project and will be heading in from Vancouver. Save me a beer.

Nice pictures of the area.Where are you detailed plans for the restoration project? Got any corporate donations? How about financial support from government? Have you the backing of the land and water users?

Hello,

We had two binders filled with documentation on display at the fundraiser explaining the project scope, including detailed plans and the financial breakdown (which includes government contribution).

It's a lengthy collection of documents, so if you would like more information please direct specific inquiries to Brian Braidwood, President of the SSBC at info@steelheadsociety.org.
