Dear River Advocate,

At a promotional media event on Monday for the upcoming World Rivers Day, attended by WRD Chair, Mark Angelo, along with the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, the Honourable Judith Guichon, an inspiring and innovative stream restoration announcement was made by the British Columbia Institute of Technology aimed at bringing back a long-lost stream.  Given the global focus on waterways this week, I thought you might find the attached link of interest.

There are many amazing world-wide planned events in place for the weekend.  The final WRD update will go out tomorrow.

With best wishes,
Scott Denkers, WRD Communications Coordinator

Pictures of today's cleanup here. https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Fraser-Valley-Salmon-Society/111769675563789

Very surprised so few showed up with thosands that were on the river this year. Maybe my stand on this has something to do with it.  ::)

Thanks to those that did come and made a difference.

Maybe most will come tomorrow.www.cleanrivers.ca

It takes a team to do it.

Video I shot of the Fraser Valley Salmon Society at their Fraser River Cleanup as they celebrated BC RIvers' Day( Worlds RIvers' Day). Our great volunteers did make a differnce, thanks for all that took part and to Westend Auto Body for hosting us, First Class Disposal for donating the bin and the City Of Chilliwack for all their help too, especially Steve Clegg from the City.

Today is another river cleanup put on by the Chilliwack Vedder River Cleanup Society, come out if you can for a great day of entertainment, prize draws, displays, and of course a free BBQ for those that do the cleanup. As well donuts coffee, etc. provided by George Shaw of Chilliwack Tim Hortons and water supplied by Chilliwack Warter Store. We pick up the goodies in an hour.

Hope some from this forum can attend.

Totals for the 2 cleanups, CVRCS 2014 totals break down as such:

GBHNR Garbage: 90 kg

CFGC Garbage: 2,680 kg

CFGC Metal: 600 kg

Total from bins: 3,370 kg

Wood, tires, and recycling from both sites: estimated 230 kg

FVSS cleanup of the Fraser River on the Saturday, 2,320 kg of waste

That 5,690 kg of material from the 2 cleanups that will be prevented from being washed down river during the freshets and high water events, well done for those that helped do this.

Hey Chris, great work!!!

As you can see, I've just recently joined this discussion forum and didn't know about the clean up.  I'd like to join the next clean up, I'll rally my buddies to come to the next one.

It's disgusting to see all the trash out there...
