I went out this afternoon with a good old buddy to fish some sockeye off the lightship and sandheads. The action is starting to get pretty good out there now and we managed to get 7 fish into the box and lost many more. My friend had never caught a sockeye salmon before and was pleasantly surprised with the fight of the larger fish we hooked. One of his fish managed to wrap itself around a downrigger wire and snap the leader (lots of excitement and learning), but he learned how to properly net a soc later. We got most of our fish on the shallow rods today and the fish did a lot of jumping. The largest fish was just over nine pounds, so the bottom bouncers up river might be in for some bigger fish in the next few days, as the average size of the fish seems to be increasing. The weather was sunny during the afternoon with flat seas and turned into a pleasant evening with whitecaps starting as we left.

Good on you for having a remarkable day! Was out all day on the 16th from the Qa marker to the t-10 marker. There must have been 300 boats out today. What a dismall performance. Maybe 1 fish for every 50 boats!!! Most were fishing random depths with four rods.
I was fishing dummy flashers at four foot intervals with at least 8 flashers going at every depth. Only two rods with hooks on them.
If their was a run worth targeting, we should have been on them! Changed depths and gear all day. What the heck are they doing
with the purse seiners up North? And what is this so called economic opp for fn?  Setting a precedent for selling fish? What a joke!!!!
Saw them selling fish from the sumass band at Whatcom yesterday, !5$ per fish. Nice to see the stewards of the river keeping the fraser as a river to sustain them in $$$, not food!! Probably get crap for my statements but what a crock!!!

Thanks yoda! Sorry you didn't get any fish. I was assuming that the commies were going to take a rather large bite out of the soc schools so I tend to concentrate my efforts near the mouth of the river as I believe the fish tend to hang around the mouth for a little while to acclimatize to the fresh water before going up. That way at least you get a crack at some measure of concentration of fish.

Maybe it  just wasn't the day to be out there. Thanks, might hug the open water really close to the mouths next time.
All said, we did enjoy the weather and seeing lots of wildlife.
