Tidal Fraser River, July 26th 2014: Two-bit Bar
« on: July 26, 2014, 08:21:53 PM »

Had a good time on the fraser today.  showed up around noon hoping to lose my sturgeon virginity, and at about 2:00 it finally happened. Only bite of the day, but when I set the hook it felt like i was hooking a log😃.

Just a chunk of an old salmon I had in the freezer for crab bait

That's pretty impressive for a first Sturgeon and from shore to boot.

Awesome. :)

Thanks guys, after the first sturgeon I saw caught I was hooked. Lol. There was me and my buddy going for sturgeon, and one other guy bar fishing for salmon.  Awesome day on the river, while my kids played in the mud

My first time fishing that bar. Normally go to Duncan or Brownsville. Figured it was the best bar out therefor sturgeon since it's the only one below the stave. Poplar is blocked by crescent island. I know there's better spots to fish for sturgeon, but it was good for the kids to play in the mud. Although there was a decent amount of broken bottles I had to clean up

We had them with us, but one seized up for some reason, and the other ended up with a snag and broke off. They were not getting any action anyways so decided the mud was more fun

Did you have to cast very far?

Guidelines for Angling White Sturgeon in BC

3. Choose your fishing location carefully - Keep sturgeon in the water
Never lift a large sturgeon out of the water

Nice fish, be better next time.

Not super far, but definitely had to get it out there.

I've never actually heard that.  Good to know and will take photos in the water next time.
