First camping trip on the Fraser in a long time. Set up camp on the 22nd, did not fish but yesterday I did in the summer storm that swept through BC. The first time I got chased off the river as everything was so wet so packed up around 8. The run down river with a strong west wind blowing against the current and a driving rain was a bit of an adventure in a loaded boat. But The Leaf Craft was so happy to be on the water after 2 years in dry dock brought me home safely.
I could write a long story of what went on, maybe later but the short of it was I lost 4 chinook, three at my feet. small ones 8 to 12 pounds. This happens with a barbless hook and a 14 ounce weight that gets hung up some times on the rocks and the hook pulls out. The most fish I have hooked bar fishing in a long time.
Good to see a nice run of fish this year as well a lot of people are bar fishing, maybe the message is getting through.
Also the launch was so slippery from the rain I had to leave the boat there to top it off then the gas tank fell out of the back of the Leaf Mobile on the way home, looked this AM but nothing so, a reverse of roles as I usually are the ones to find things, off to buy a new one now and then pick up the boat, well if the rain stops I think I will go out and see if things improve.
As well I have to bring back my tent and tarp had left out there as the boat was so loaded and the weight of the wet things was a concern.
Also a Vancouver film crew was coming out yesterday to film a documentary but of course we cancelled, wanting to come today but I think we will do it Friday.
Another day to remember that for sure.
