Tidal Fraser River, June 18th 2014
« on: June 19, 2014, 09:19:20 PM »

Put in a few hours before high tide and an hour after. Caught a 3 footer in the first 5 minutes then another 5 footer as the tide peaked. Had two more solid hits but I set it just as they where dropping it. First was caught on a stocked rainbow and the other on a piece of chinook. Fished from shore in Burnaby.

Did you use the whole rainbow trout?

I cut the head and tail off then cut them in half, almost like a fillet.

Phew. I was worried for a bit, but then I realized I'm not fluent in the sturgeoneseaen tongue of the Fraser River. Rosetta Stone maybe....

Went again today. Was late on a hit at the start then nothing so I moved down river. Had a hit, then nothing for 5 minutes. He came back and hit again then nothing for a few more minutes, finally he picked it up after playing with it for so long and I set on him. Small guy, only a 3.5 footer. Moved down river some more and nothing for an hour. Made one final move down and after 20 minutes my rod goes off. He dropped it so I waiting for him to pick it up again. After 2 or 3 minutes it starts going again and I set the hook. This thing came flying out of the water! After a little over 10 minutes and 3 jumps with 2 long runs I finally bring him in. He was big so I got in the water with him.

Took off like a dart so he was ok

Faded off you can't really tell. It's an old rod my dad has had for years. It's a 10 footer MH action

I thought it was illegal to use sport fish for bait.

Great looking fish, it must have been a rush playing that big guy. Well done BCfisherman97 and thanks for posting the pics and the nice report. I'm chomping at the bit after seeing this.

Page 9 of the regs. states that headless fin fish can be used on the Fraser. That's the only place there is an exception .
