Roche lakeFish kill

I just heard there was an 85% fish kill at Roche lake. Large Rainbows lying on bottom dead.What a shame.

I fished it last week and found lots of fish near the resort including a fat 19" on a micro leech.

I'm planning on going there in a few weeks. You think I should hit a different lake instead? Leighton or Tunkwa maybe?

I would say the post is correct....

They had a derby there recently.

Most fish caught was 20 (someone at my work knows the guy who won that category), most people got skunked, largest was around 2 pounds. NO big fish and not many fish.

Maybe not a total winter kill, but all the large ones are dead. Best to spend your time at other lakes.

Good luck if you do go though!

I heard from a few guides and some friends that fished it when just ice free, around 300 fish around 1-3 lbs were found dead floating near shore, scattered on shore as well. i believe a 20" fish won.

If you plan on productive fishing, chain lakes, courtney lake, anything around merrit and into kamaloops is doing fairly well atm, stump. dragon. peterhope logan lake, err, anything around that area usually has something kicking around, and other lakes are close enough not to be an burden to head to if its slow.

why would there be a winter kill in such a deepish lake. I thought shallower lakes were more prone to this fate.
I'm heading up with some coworkers next week and I'm hoping there is still good fishin to be had
any opinions? please!!! would be appreciated

Thanks for the info Brian, much appreciated. Have you heard of Lundbom lake? I was checking yearly fish stocking reports, and Lundbom gets 1500 spring catchable RB a year and it's a good size lake. I'm thinking this would have a lot of larger trout.

It all depends on what you expect from the fishing. Roche has lots of services and is easy to fish. The majority of people that fish it are happy to go out for a few hours and catch a couple for dinner. The hardcore expect double digit days with a few over 5 lbs.
If you're in the first camp Roche will meet your expectations as always. In the second, not so much.
