Pacific Angler's Friday Fishing Report: May 2nd, 2014

Outlook

I’m sort of confused- I always thought Spring, not Summer, came after Winter!
As most of you can see, the weather has taken a complete flip from the cold and rainy winter that we got used to, right to a sunny and hot Spring.

This change in weather has most of the river anglers groaning and the lake guys smiling- and those who prefer the salt should start to see more fish showing up as the Chinook fishery starts to come into shape and the crabbing staying good!

For the most part, the majority of our coastal rivers are starting to colour up and rise with freshet starting to take place.
The sudden increase of river height and flow can change the layout of a river and make previously navigable stretches of water dangerous for both of those who wade and float the rivers.

Please be aware that on any day you are fishing a glacially affected river that the water can rise quickly and unexpectedly, and to exercise caution while wading and floating/rafting.

For those who fish lakes, this dramatic increase of warm temperatures is a welcomed, melting ice and quickly turning over lakes. We are starting to slowly hear of more lakes that are freeing up from ice, as well as a few reports of ones that are showing signs of life.
