Anyone Else Notice the Earthquake Yesterday?
« on: April 24, 2014, 01:44:55 PM »

Apparently there was a 6.6 M earthquake off of Port Hardy yesterday evening. Pretty weird that I could feel it all the way in Langley. I also saw the water in my aquarium start sloshing around for a good 30 seconds and the lights in the ceiling started swinging.

Anyone else notice this?

Felt it in Vancouver 10 floors up. It was a long period earthquake which means that it had a relatively large amount of time between peaks of the wave. Kind of like being in the ocean on spaced out swells. This causes tall buildings to sway, but is hard to feel closer to the ground.

I was on the 10th floor of an office building when I experienced an earthquake in Vancouver about 10 years ago. It's a scary feeling, something I don't want to experience again.

Yea true that. I think the type of ground the buildings are built on also makes a pretty big difference. I think people living around the Fraser and the whole Fraser delta area felt it more because of the softer ground which amplified the effects. People in Vancouver probably didn't feel it much unless they were in all buildings.
