Tunkwa Lake ice fishing report, February 12th 2014
« on: February 12, 2014, 11:42:04 PM »

It was a busy long weekend out on Tunkwa and Leighton lakes. Great to see all the people, especially families, out enjoying the great outdoors on the Family Day Long weekend. Our area was in the grips of the deep freeze like the entire province, with night time temperature dipping into the low -20's! Daytimes were beautiful though, warming up quickly with clear sky, lots of sunshine and no wind, made it just incredible to be outside.

There have been mixed reports from guests out there ice fishing. No one is really going at it too seriously, the 20 plus inches of ice kinda takes the fun out of drilling lots of holes and moving around. Trout were being caught on both Tunkwa and Leighton, but definitely not on fire. It seemed shallow locations were better, with some bigger trout coming out of Tunkwa, including the ones 'too big to fit through the ice hole'. Cured shrimp or krill were best bets, using a jig-head or hook in a "glow-in-the-dark" finish being best.
