Fished the Cap. today in the lower river. I was very dissapointed to see the Natives have installed a fish weir just above the west bound Marine Dr. bridge, and netting Coho out of their weir pool.

It don't make sense to me. The recreational fishemen put money in to the Cap. fishery through liscence fees and the hatchery puts the fish in the river for sports fishermen to catch, and the natives figure that those fish were put in the river for them to net out for ceremonial use.

Imagine what would happen to a sports fishermen if they tried a stunt like this.

Don't get me wrong, I'm by no means trying to paint all native people with the same brush. but on the other hand why are we (sports fishermen) subsidizing this blatent misuse of the resource?

So as mentioned in a previous post, it's confirmed, the fish weirs are in place on the Capilano River :(
