Tidal Fraser River, September 11th 2013
« on: September 11, 2013, 02:20:13 PM »

Fished the high tide around the Steveston area and nothing. Very few fish rising and no strikes. Tried spoons, buzz bombs and flies. But it is still a great day to be out on the river even without any fish.

I was a fair bit further upriver and had some success.
The little doe was a bit of a puzzler. It hammered my spoon, jumped 3 times - fully clearing the water each time, and rolled on the surface. I was 90% sure it was a coho until it got close.

Slow retrieve with a 1/4 oz Croc worked well. If you think you're reeling slowly, slow down some more.
Others we're having success with spinners behind a bit of weight.

Surrey too in the evening. Deck full of people but a fish or two. That is it. Not many rising fish at all.

same story here in mission. lots a guys out there on both side of the river.spoons , spinners whatever,  no  takers.  really weird season  so far. caught a  5 inch pikeminnow on a # 3 blue fox. came of the hook halfway in. fell on a rock and was floating belly up down the river. a seagull came and scooped him up. dinner time i guess. so much for my outing today. :)

I did manage to hook one in the afternoon, but lost it. There weren't alot of fish jumping, and we did cruise around quite a bit. I heard the mouth is packed with fish maybe they are waiting for water temps to drop a bit before entering the river? Who knows at least it was a great day to be out on the water.

I had my first day fishing to large numbers and for an hour I was into a fish every 2nd or 3rd cast. The valley spots above Mission seem to be coming into their own now. I think a good number of fish moving through are headed above Hell's Gates.

It seem I often hit a few pinks that are really vigorous and run hard and far leaving me wonder if they might be a jack spring or small coho till I get them close. Mostly the does are like that but bucks can do that as well.

Ralph, were you fishing tidal or non-tidal this morning?
