WTB: 4 or 5hp 4-stroke outboard
« on: August 06, 2013, 10:34:27 AM »

Looking for an outboard for my 12 foot aluminum. We fish primarily on small isolated lakes and normally our 40lb thrust electric is fine. However when the wind picks up it is just not enough power. Also for gear trolling it is tough to get a full day out of the battery especially if there is a head wind.

Anyway, I'm looking for a 4 or 5hp four stroke. Sorry not interested in 2 stroke. I've looked at buying brand new but just can't justify the price as I'm thinking in a year or two I'll probbaly sell the boat and upgrade to a 14 or 16 foot boat, in which case I'd need a bigger motor too.

Looking for something in very good condition, newer, well kept and maintained, etc. Not looking for a motor with any issues. I'm not partial to a specific brand although IMO Mercury is excellent bang for your buck and they're good motors, so Merc would probably be my first choice. Honda or Yamaha also thumbs up.

Not sure exactly what shaft lenght my boat takes. I'm assuming just a standard length. It has a pretty low freeboard so whatever the common/standard length is, that's likley what it takes.
