If you do the math there is maybe only 7-8 fish that are tagged in each lake out of thousands would make it hard to catch .
Some may never even be caught right away

And i hope you would have a valid fishing license and proper stamps if required in the first place LOL there is no catch  troutbreath

Actually it's less than that. 300 tagged fish are distributed into stocked lakes across the province, not just the Lower Mainland.

If you wish to release the tagged fish and claim your prize at the same time, you can remove the tag by cutting it with a pair of scissors.

As of a few days ago, a couple of tags have been retrieved in the Lower Mainland (both by the same angler! :D ), one fish from Vancouver Island, one from the Okanagan area. :)

Update. 15 tagged fish were caught and prizes were claimed in May.

I was at a local lake Saturday and saw a fellow catch one. Saw another guy at the same spot last month with one, and heard of a third. That's two confirmed firsthand. I wouldn't use the contest as a source of income, but it sure gets the anglers who witness it excited, and adds to the fun! ;D

If you can release the fish , why do this ? . I thought it would be to study the fish for whatever reason
