Thanks for that Chris.  WTF?  Why is this project even being thought of?  I had the pleasure of chasing some pinkies around there in 2011 and what a beauty area.  There goes the neighbourhood.

Dumbass answer Bavarian Raven. So you agree that it's ok to destroy fish habitat because of expanding cities even though for a slightly higher cost you could just use a crusher at a rock quarrey to get a similar product?

There is also a hydro generation project called Box Canyon being developed on McNab Creek by Elemental Energy.  From their web site:

With business partner Sound Energy Inc., Elemental Energy through its subsidiary Box Canyon Hydro Corp., is currently planning the development of the Box Canyon power plant on the northwest side of Howe Sound on BC’s Sunshine Coast
PROJECT STATS
The 15MW run-of-river power plant will be located on Box Canyon Creek near Port Mellon, BC

The site contains over 500 metres of hydraulic head and is near a 138kV British Columbia Transmission Corporation power line

Transportation to the site is relatively easy with tide water access and a logging road infrastructure already in place

The plant will be developed to meet or exceed all environmental requirements from both provincial and federal governments
