RIO Versitip 9wt Fly Line + All Tips
« on: December 31, 2012, 12:19:11 AM »

Selling my Rio Versitip Fly Line and Tips. Looking to sell because it does not match my rod correctly and this is partly my fault for picking the wrong line. Comes with running line, all 5 tips, nice carrying pouch for tips, line spool and original box. All nearly mint condition. Used for 2 trips, maybe 7 hours total, and only used two of the tips, rest where never touched. Perfect fly rod set up for salmon, just put on the desired tip and your fishing. Can adjust to the conditions and spots you are fishing in a minute.

Included Changeable Tips :

Floating Clouser Taper
15 ft Clear AquaLux Intermediate Sinking (1.5 ips 3.8 cm/s)
15 ft Type 3 DC Sinking (3 - 4 ips 8.9 cm/s)
15 ft Type 6 DC Sinking (6 - 7 ips 17 cm/s)
15 ft Type 8 DC Sinking (8 - 9 ips 20.3 cm/s)(#8 -#10 lines only)
Sizes : WF4 - WF5 : 90 ft, WF6 - WF10 : 100 ft
Color : Yellow

Package goes for 160 in store, and I believe RIO discontinued this set up so I don't think you can find it in stores. Will let it go for 100. Pickup in Burnaby/New West. Will be in Richmond and Surrey at certain times of the week. Also will be in Chilliwack fishing for most of the winter.

Cheers

thats a really great price  ;D

if you were to price this stuff out seperately it gets rediculous, off the top of my head (my memory might be off a few dollars)

fly line body - $60
tip wallet - $24
each individual tip - $24.99

I actually know people that have bought this setup by the piece instead of the package which boggles my mind  ???  ???

why cant you just take it back to the store ans exchange it for the proper line weight ?

I bought a versatip online cause it was an internet sale but when it came they sent me a spey versatip (or i clicked the wrong one by mistake) and the store exchanged it and gave me the cash difference :-)

Well I bought it from Cabelas in the states about 2 months ago and it's just easier for me to sell it here then to send it or take me back. That's for the post HOOK.

Too bad it's not for an 8 wt or I'd be all over this.

I was using it for an 8 weight, I was able to cast nearly to my backing single hand, but when I tried to throw in a double hand cast I couldn't, If I had a singlehanded rod I'd keep it, but since I have a double it's gotta go. Maybe someone on the site who knows a little more can shed some light on if it could match an 8 weight single hand.

Thanks

I've used this setup on a single hand 8wt Z-Axis and a Launch, they both work well enough though it was a little less tiring when I used the 8wt line.  In any wind however, the 9wt versitip is nicer as it's gets blown around less.

I use my 9 wt system on an 8 wt. sage Xi3 all the time and prefer it to the 8 wt. setup which I use on my 7 wt. rod....nothing wrong with lining up a line weight, especially when it's windy!

I have the same set up in 8wt for my single hander
had i not recently purchased a new fly line body (last one got a nick in it)I would have taken this off your hands
I am sure the 9wt will work well on an 8wt rod
hope someone is in need of a set up like this as it is a good deal
good luck
