Chilliwack River, October 9th 2012
« on: October 10, 2012, 05:58:05 AM »

No one else gave a report so here is a short one. I got back from the USA yesterday and was anxious to get back on the river be it near the end of the day.

As I drove along the dyke on the way to empty the garbage can at KWB I thought it was still the weekend as it looked like a Walmart parking lot.

The can was was nearly full and the beach was almost clear of material which was nice to see after the invasion of the troops to it's sand bar on the long weekend. One chap was cleaning a nice hen chum there and I believe he had a spring jack as well, did not look at it too closely.

I also changed the bag on the gate at KWB and then headed to "The Glove" and was pleased to see it vacant. The tide was in full flood and the float moved very slowly. Waves of fish were moving through all across the length of the canal as the water was high enough for them to move through easily. Does not make it for the best fishing at "The Glove" as they donot tube through where we fish.

As darkness fell the waves of moving fish increased as the fish felt the safety of the fading light and the urge of the hatchery miles above. Some anglers above cut their migration short as a couple of fish were observed being brought to shore.

I had a few chances too, about 6 times the Maple Leaf Drennam went for a dive, most likely coho jacks as I could not hook them, even had one chase the bait as I reeled in. A chap who came a bit later than me landed a spring jack and also missed a few.

With 2 coho jacks cooking at home for supper by my wife I really did not need any fish at the moment so I packed up and headed back to the Leaf Mobile knowing, in a few hours I will again visit "The Glove or "The Blue Cup".

Got a couple of days off work; the kid's hockey and soccer aren't until the afternoon: tomorrow morning will find me at the Vedder! ;D I also see the rain is arriving on Friday (extra bonus)!! ;D ;D I just hope that the first rain of the season doesn't blow out the river. Tomorrow's fishing will be dedicated to my recently passed fishing buddy Cal Dueck; gone from us at much too young an age. I'll be thinking about ya buddy (bring me some luck!).
