God knows I carry no brief for John Van Dongen. He was a terrible minister who bears the responsibility for the plague of fish farms we have slaughtering our wild salmon. His public pronouncements on the subject were straight from the Fish Farmers manual. H forgave and paid back all the fines assessed against the fish farmers and warned them when inspectors were coming over, which he had to resign from cabinet.
But Rich Coleman has disgraced himself and shown himself to be utterly untrustworthy. Here was Coleman telling how Van Dongen confided in him, over considerable time, and then discloses not only this fact but that Van Dongen was unburdening himself over his troubled private life. It’s hard to find words to use in describing such perfidy. The worst part is that he used these confidential revelations to pillory Van Dongen for party political purposes.
I’ve had my share of marital problems as I daresay have many of you. I have confided my grief – and indeed guilt – to a friend I trusted. I can’t imagine how I’d feel if that person were to make these confidential disclosures public.
Rich Coleman, who so obviously is after Christy Clark’s job, if he has a soupcon of morality in his soul, owes Mr Van Dongen a public ands fulsome apology.

I cannot believe that Vaughn Palmer, in today’s Sun, says that NDP leader Adrian Dix, on receiving a warning for not having a Skytrain ticket, should have given out a press release!
I have no idea whether or not Dix is telling the truth about not having a ticket but, of critical importance is the fact that the Skytrain “police” believed him.
Mr Dix has had credibility problems in the past and the voters will judge those in due course. I was much disappointed in his lack of forthrightness in the interview I had with him.
My political Axiom 2 says “you don’t have to be a 10 in politics – you can be a 3 if everyone else is a 2. For me, at present, Dix is a 3 in a sea of 2s.
For Palmer to suggest that being let off with a warning requires a press release tells me that he’s concerned that recently he has, ever so slightly, fallen off the Liberal wagon and is trying to make amends.
