This thread is just a reminder to release those wild steelhead with care. Dont take your fish way out of the water, get in the water and grab it maybe a quick pic in the water then release them. Dont pull them up on the beach this is very bad for the fish. On saturday i was fishing a river that gets a small run of winter runs and saw three dead steelhead all bright chrome within 2km of river, one which was sliced and the roe was gone, when this river is catch and release only and all wild fish no hatchery. Friday I fished the chilliwack and saw guys pulling fish on the rocks holding them out of the water for a good 30+ seconds then just dropping them  in the river without even properly reviving them. Showed one guy how to properly land and release a fish. Next time you see people try talking to them telling them what there doing is wrong instead of just yelling, it ends better. Had to get that out, also the conterversie in the fish porn right now should be here not the fish porn thread.

Good on you steelie-slayer. Its not only Steelhead, but all other fish species you intend to release. Proper catch and release techniques have been very poor by what I have seen. Please treat all your fish with respect and care-

Tail the fish in the water with wet hands-


Remove the hook-


Pose for a picture if wanted, keep the fish in the water as much as possible and have your camera man ready, only lift it out for a few short seconds if needed-




Put the fish back in the water facing upstream and rock him/her back and fourth slowly to get the water flowing over his/her gills-



Once you feel the fish start to regain strength and start to kick, let it go-


This goes for all fish intended for release-



Please respect every fish you catch because everyone is special and you never know what can happen to the run. Every fish counts.

--I think rocking could be an issue...probably best... especially in a river to just point up stream into current..clear of any sediment you might have stirred up.

I have seen wild steelhead filleted and thrown in the bush just up on the river bank. The local CO's have been informed and I hope they get what is coming to them.

Today i got a nice 10 pound doe wild! I was alone and when i landed it and wanted a pic but it was to hard for me to take a picture while holding on to the fish it was gettin mud in its eye so i said screw it and just revived him and let him go he took off in about 3 seconds i felt really good after
