Both are excellent reels.  My vote goes to the kingfisher.  You get the quality of a milner but less cost.  The talisman is made after the Hardy which is what my preference would be if I were to go that route.  My 2¢

there both made after hardy reels....

I own 6, including a talisman. do you need a talisman? no. a 4 3/8 kingfisher is a nice reel and will suit you fine. unless your a gear whore like me or someone who appreciates a masterpiece of machining like the talisman, you dont need one....most people probably wouldnt even notice the difference in the reels anyways

Yeah I really enjoy collecting reels etc. I may just buy a Talisman for now and pick up a Kingfisher in the future. Since the Talisman is only available in bushing should i pick up the bearing version of the kingfisher?

I have both reels plus the Manx and although I love looking at the Talisman I almost always fish with my Kingfisher.  Everything about it is perfect.  It's thinner body is more comfortable in my hand and I don't mind laying it on the rocks etc.  It's an awesome reel!  I would get the bushing.

Last time i asked someone, bearings will eventually wear out where as bushing if you maintain it well will last forever!.

What size do you guys use for the kingfisher?

That makes sense considering that the Talisman has 24k gold on it lol. I do have an islander steelheader that is really durable........ but yeah tough choice!

i noticed different diameters changed my retrieval rates. my 4.5" islander reels in a lot faster than my 4" silex
