Upper Fraser White Chinook / Shrinking Springs
« on: September 07, 2011, 08:00:09 PM »

Caught a 14 lb white spring near Hope on Saturday.  Anyone know what river these up-river whites are heading for?  Or are they just a minority of run in each river?

Also, I noticed that all of the springs caught this weekend were smaller than average - 10 to 15 lbs from the half dozen I saw.  Is this consistent with what others are seeing on the Fraser lately?

When I worked on the upper Fraser tributary rivers, most of them had some whites in them. Some rivers more, some rivers less. Those were primarily early summer stocks which are spawning around now. The Thompson system has whites as well as reds but I have not spent much time on that system so I could not venture a guess to which river they are heading for. Hope this helps.
