Including from Alexandra Morton in her blog today:

"They were bullies and destroyed Echo Bay. My First Nation friends are standing toe to toe against the federal and provincial governments and these Norwegian corporations - unblinking. They don't want the trinkets the industry is throwing at them. They live in the wilderness and thus can still feel the pulse of the living world. Wild salmon run in their veins.  I have seen this from all sides. The industry and government cannot figure out who I am and hurl insults. They insinuate I do this for money. Well, I have news for them. There are things more powerful than money!  This is about the home I love. I follow in the tradition of the millions of women before me who have fought for the lands they raised their children on"

There's only two days left of the 'Aquaculture' hearings at the Cohen Commission in Canada – today  (7th) and tomorrow (8th) when Alexandra Morton is on the witness stand with Marine Harvest and Grieg Seafood.

Including from John Henderson writing in the Salmon Arm Observer:

"I think Alexandra Morton, a marine biologist with the Rainforest Research Society, has a compelling explanation for both the 2009 collapse and the 2010 run of the century.  Morton notes that the Fraser River sockeye runs went into a steep decline starting in 1992 after salmon farms were placed near Campbell River on the migration route of the Fraser River sockeye"

And from Damien Gillis in today's Common Sense Canadian:

"Yesterday, on the penultimate day of the Cohen Commission's hearings on aquaculture and diseases, Alexandra Morton finally took the stand. To say the event lived up to its billing is an understatement, as the Inquiry often characterized by technocratic tedium was jolted to life in its final rounds.....One day left and it feels like we're only just now really getting somewhere"

RAFE HERE  …After 160 news articles condemning fish farms, following the revelation that they have introduced a fatal virus into our waters, it should be day of relief for all of us who have been fighting this battle shoulder to shoulder  with Alexandra Morton for the past near decade,

However, it must be noted that it was the fight that should never have been.

I blame the Campbell/Clark government for most of this environmental tragedy for it is they who should never have allowed this to have started.

This government, from the outset, denied the scientific evidence around the world which has cost us millions of fish. It was an act of deliberate self deception accompanied by out and out falsehoods from day one. World class scientists with peer reviewed evidence were vilified while the industry continued to uncaringly put profits ahead of all else. They have been the worst sort of corporate visitors doing in BC what they weren’t permitted to get away with at home.

This has been part of the Campbell/Clark governments strict adherence to the far right rubbish of their advisers to the exclusion of science.

Speaking for myself I spent a lot of effort in showing Premier Campbell the facts even doing a report for him at his request for which I didn’t even receive a reply.

Without hesitation I say that this tragedy was brought upon this province because its government, instead of safeguarding our interest, sold us out for campaign funds and ideological nonsense.

They, the Fraser Institute, Patrick Moore and the like should be thoroughly ashamed of selling out their province.

In Cromwell’s famous passage, quoted by Leo Amery to the Neville Chamberlain government in 1940

You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing lately…. Depart, I say; and let us have done with you. In the name of God,—go!”—

Please remember this day and take a moment.

We are witnessing history - will look back on today as the watershed when the tide turned against salmon farming.

The industry is in global media meltdown: Google 'salmon' and click on 'News' and you'll see over 160 articles including Washington Post, CBS, NBC, San Francisco Chronicle, Anchorage Daily News, Huffington Post, New York Times, Seattle Times and even FOX.

This is the End of the Line for the Norwegian-owned salmon farming industry in B.C.!
