cancun beach fishing

hello,

im going to Cancun next week for a 4 days and have decided to take my 8wt 9 foot fly rod. i have flys that should be good for jacks,barracuda,tarpon, and some for even bone fish. i was thinking of just going and exploring the beach and casting.(not guided) any suggestions or tips from anyone with info or experience about type of water or any other info. is mucho appreciated.

You're probably going to have to head south out of town.

SOP in Mexican beach resort towns is to have a No Fishing zone on beaches in front of large hotels, maybe if you get up early enough you can get away with a little fishing before someone comes along.

I heard it can be fun fishing right outside the resorts. I was told you can just slip a few dollars their way and you can fish anywhere.....

i too have heard that a number of people chuck spoons and such and have had some success. I was thinking of doing a daily double shift a couple hours in am and a couple in the evening and try my luck. If i catch something you will see it in the porn thread. if not who cares! good to be out on a beach! My first fishing outing for 2010 will be in mexico. Have been so busy this year that haven't even gone to try for steel at the vedder.
