--might want to try soft plastic like compleat angler prawnbroker or shrimp and if area allows bait fishsticks lure enhancer added to the soft plastic, can get cryogenic shrimp scent which contains real shrimp and salt.
--the scent can be applied to lures as well, again where no bait ban only.
--not for human consumption soft plastics with scent looks as good as the real thing. also might survive some casting and catching abuse that real shrimp wouldn't.

I tend to use raw. I'll pro-cure them sometimes, and sometimes I'll use whole, but most times I'll just use a smaller chunk (1/2 to 1/3 of a prawn or even smaller in fine water) because that's what I have on hand instead of deli shrimp. I often wondered if they would become ineffective after long usage, but I've caught fish after the bait's been on for quite a while, and is almost white with a little pink or orange, and looks... a lot... like... pink wool. Hmmmmm....

1) How do you go about 'curing them'?

2)When used raw, do you need to remove some of the external shell?

Thanx

What i did is took the shells off, and put them in a bowl the night before fishing and put core salt and pro cure on them.
the core salt dries them out, sucks up the moisture, and the procure turns them purple =)
you can get pro cure at a tackle shop, core salt at grocery stores.

i can go through half a shrimp ring a day. once the shrimp is water logged , shredded and has lost its smell(and color) change it up. you dont leave bleached out roe bags on all day do you? honestly if your fishing with 1 prawn all day your doing it wrong and you could be fishing with white wool or a white plastic worm and be just as effective.
