Looks like I'm heding to Tigh-Na-Mara in Parksville for the weekend at the end of January.... anyone give me some ideas of shore fishing that's close to (or just outside the door of) the resort - the where's and what's etc?  Not for any particular species, just anything that I can play with for a couple hours (likely all I will be able to duck out of a romantic weekend getaway - a bday pressie from my wife, so since it's my pressie I can trump a couple hours at least for fishing! LOL) each day and have a hope of anything tugging back at me... no boat, not really any gear for the salt so I'll maybe pick up a little bit if I need something and likely just use my med actioin spinning rod or baitcaster as I'll have them in the truck with me!

Could be river too if there's something close of course..... will likely be going to have a hike thru the Cathedral Grove since last time we were there I accidentally proposed LOL

The stamp is only about an hour from there and the steel heading there is pretty awsome acording to dion in the fish porn thread .I have caught coho off the break water at the marina in parksville but Im not sure what would be around in jan.Best ask at the marina they are pretty good with the info.Tsamp is defenitly worth the trip though some beatiful scenery to keep the wife happy near thew fish ladder at stamp falls.

Try the Englishmen River.  It's only about 20 min away.  I used to go there as a kid and we would catch small rainbows.  This was 15 years ago, so I am not sure if any fish still live in the river but it might be worth looking into.

I'll check the regs no matter where I end up since I've never fished the island anywhere before!! 

My big wonder if anyone knows is there anything within walking distance from the resort or anything right in front in the salt?  As I mentioned, I don't care what species, just something to play with -0 with limited time I was hoping for some hints so I don't spend it in vain..... 

Think I'll do one day up to the Stamp tho....  if anyone wants to email me any tips or places or anything, I sure wouldn't hit delete without mezmorizing the info first!

The resort is on Rathtrevor beach. Its a big sandy beach where you walk out maybe 1 km at low tide.  No real fishing available there.

The Englishmen river mouth as about 1-2 km north of the resort - a nice walk through Rathtrevor park.  I've seen some small trout and even some coho upstream on this river. Some of the Rathtrevor park foreshore area has some gravel beaches where I suppose some cutties or coho could be found at certain times of year. Cameron lake is near Cathedral grove. I go there every year and like all thoise places, but have never fished any of them - I doubt that the fishing woudl be great this time of year.

i would hit the englishman. acouple minute drive and turn down at the bridge. theres cutties right there.

Drive North on the Hwy. Hit the Little Qualicum River, and farther up the highway, the Big Qualicum River. Check the Regs., but should be good Cuthroat fishing.

We used to slay them back in the day (1980's), and I understand, although the fishing is not as good as back then, it is still not bad.

Was over at big Q earlier this year and caught some nice cutty's above the hatchery but I think it is closed up there now. Little Q should have some nice cutts below the hatchery. Might even find a steel
