Rick Passek is a pretty avid writer and will probably coming out with one sometime, so keep posted.

The Gillie is good
a book by Karl Bruhn is the best I've seen yet
Flybc is a great resource as well.

STS Guiding has an excellent resource on their website that you will find very helpful for lower mainland patterns. I use this alot and it's better than a book as its specific patterns for local waters.

I will be coming out with a beginners Tying guide in the next few months. It will NOT be a conventional book though. I am coming out with a E-Book that will have all the info of a regular book (Info, Pics, etc..) but it will also have quite a few videos that will be a part of the E-Book.

Some of the vids will be;

-Using a whip Finisher as well as most other tools needed for tying
-Dubbing loops, and other dubbing methods
-Hackle and how to use it in different situations
-Deer Hair uses and how to use it.

Plus more.

I will let you all know when it comes out.

For now, try going to places like;

http://www.diptera.co.uk/

Good Luck

You might want to re think putting it in book form Rick.
I am a newbie at tying and i have dvd,s with instruction on tying.
There is also all you want to know and more available on you tube etc.
Unfortunately i wasnt able to set-up my tying bench near the computer and will be looking for a book that i can reference at the bench.

Im sure you have given this a lot of thought but this is just another angle to look at it from.

I agree with Firstlight. I have room for my laptop by my tying desk but the desk is always way to covered in materials to put it there LOL I do however always have room to lean a book up for reference.

How about doing both book and E-book forms ?? just release a certain amount of book copies so you dont get stuck with loads that dont sell and if the demand is there you can always print more  ;D

I also agree with the above comments. I would like a book that I can used at my table, as well as read at my leisure. Just my own preference. Maybe Hooks idea about a limited number of book copies.

I have thought this through. I would LOVE to produce another "Book" As in paper form, but when you are self Published, the costs are HIGH. The last two books cost me in the $15-20,000 range (each) to print.

I have been contacted by 2 publishers, and I am talking to them right now to see if the deals are good or not, we will have to see. The issue is not the $ with the Publishers, it the rights to do the book how I want to do it. Once you sign with a publishing house, they start to tell you how THEY want the book to be and look, I want to have the Artistic rights, and that is what we are discussing right now with them.

We will see, but I will keep you all informed.

Art Lindgren has a couple Fly Patterns of British Columbia (has a lot of historical patterns but there are some still useful and popular classics) and Contemporary Fly Patterns of British Columbia both from Frank Amato Books. Check your local library.
