Barry Penner misses the mark
« on: September 20, 2009, 08:41:40 PM »

Barry Penner, our provincial environment minister has announced that he has written to the federal fisheries minister about the lousy sockeye forecast.   In a radio interview, minister Penner complained that the bad forecast resulted in economic loss as guides, commercial fishermen and aboriginals prepared for fishing that didn't happen.    This bunch in Victoria really don't get it.    The bad forecast was a disappointing nuisance but hardly the problem.   The problem is the missing fish and why.  As an apparent afterthought to the interview, Minister Penner recounted the probable reasons for the missing fish and almost forgot to mention aquaculture.

I heard that interview on CBC.  It shows how uninformed Penner is on the real impact of Aquaculture on our Wild Salmon and the damage it's done under his watch for years!

Now the Federal Gov't is about to bring more Norwegian Fish Farms to are already decimated Straight of Georgia.

The government types do not wish to blame Fish Farms as they are to busy promoting them in order to make money and provide employment, at the demise of our Salmon stocks.Their should be a full on inquiry brought forth to find out what happened to our Sockeye!

Get a grip--- "provide employment"? the fish farms -by their own  numbers, only employ 500 workers in BC!! And they export over 80,000 TONNES of Atlantic Salmon per year---Their Numbers.  Figure out how much money they contribute to the Provincial Fiberal Party (F.O.I) and you'll see why Victoria won't stop them from expanding their rape of our Wild Salmon Fishery---- Tight lines
