My guess is it will come back in a few more years. Traffic is getting worse, so there will be lots of pressure.
I'm not sure why they can't put a road through further south (say 72nd Avenue area?) that would be less harmful. 

72nd is already a very busy street.


What about 80th Ave? That to me makes the most sense. Its right in the middle of 88th and 72nd. Maybe thats just too logical......
