Took some Salmon into a local smokehouse last week and was surprised to be asked for the #  of my fishing license-never happened before.  :-\

Did you show up with a truckload of Sockeye??  I have never had that happen to me either.  But now I smoke my own, that is the only way to do it.

Have a great day

I called them and this is what they said.

It's DFO tracing so if illegal fish come in they can take scale samples and bust you. This is NOT up to the smoke house but is law that they must follow.

But if from a store you just need to say so, no prof of buy BUT if you bring in a lot of store bought chinook you might want to keep the receipt as you can only keep 10 per year.

This is more of a threat from dfo so when the poacher brings his fish in he might get scared off or if you bring in 20 springs in 1 year you will be getting a little vist from DFO.

I guess it is not a bad thing to check, depending on the quantities.  I have seen adds on CL for people wanting to buy large quantities of Sockeye.  But do you think if someone has a truck load of illegal caught Sockeye that they will take it to a commercial smokehouse?  I kind of doubt it.

Have a great day
